Blackcat Lycanthropy - the facts

I thought I would start a new 'did you know?' thread for those interested in the phenomenon of Lycanthropy.

In most developped Western countries, the condition has actually been recognised as a dangerous mental condition, known as Clinical Lycanthropy, where the sufferer believes themselves to be a werewolf. The subject will usually 'change' on a full moon, believing themselves geniunely to be a man-eating wolf. There are few do666666666ented cases so it has only been recorded as a psychological, delusional condition to date, but there have been many incidents throughout history which suggest in some cases the disease indeed manifests itself physically. In fact there is a closely related congenital condition (affecting worldwide less than 100 people) called Gunther's Disease in which the sufferer actually becomes hairy, deformed and allergic to sunlight.

Though the common image for Lycanthropy in our society is the wolf, in some other countries there are local variations including Wer-Tigers, Wer-Crocodiles, and even Wer-Elephants! But the most common is the wolf, or WereWolf.

Cases of Lycanthropy are always higher in February.

In Germany, werewolves are thought to become vampires after death.. In Ireland, the condition is believed to be inherited.

If you have any other facts or insights on this fascinating topic then please add them to this thread..

Lycanthropy comes from the Greek lykoi meaning "wolf", and anthropos meaning "man". The clinical lycanthropy disorder you refer to is known medically as Porphyria which results from an enzyme deficiency that can lead to light sensitivity and other symptoms that have led to the mythology of werewolves

Blackcat lycanthropy - the remedy..

this device was in a pile of junk in a wierd old antique shop in London.. it is supposed to detect the early stages of Lycanthopy and cure the victim with its remedy .. if not administered too late of course!
